Market Radar Pattern Variant

VCP Volatility Contraction Pattern

Market Radar treats VCP as a leadership-base candidate where tightening pullbacks, volume contraction, and relative strength are evaluated together.

Product methodology page for VCP scanner candidates.

Variant interpretation

The VCP scanner variant focuses on practical result fields: contraction count, pivot clarity, base-low invalidation, volume behavior, and relative strength. It is designed to produce a clear watchlist candidate rather than a vague chart-pattern label.

Market Radar requires enough visible contraction behavior before surfacing the candidate. One small pullback is not enough to describe a VCP.

  • At least two visible contractions
  • Pivot area near resistance
  • Volume dries near the pivot
  • Base low remains intact

What weakens the candidate

A wide late-stage pullback, base-low failure, or pivot rejection on heavy volume reduces quality. A VCP should become tighter over time, not wider.

This page supports scanner explainability by describing why the VCP result is scored and how it can be invalidated.

Detection Focus

  • At least two visible contractions
  • Constructive trend context
  • Clear pivot area
  • Base-low invalidation

Quality Signals

  • Smaller successive pullbacks
  • Volume dries up near the pivot
  • Price remains in the upper base area
  • Relative strength improves or holds

Invalidation

  • Base low breaks
  • Wide volatile pullback appears
  • Pivot rejection with heavy volume
Market Radar treats pattern names as context-dependent watchlist candidates. Direction, trend context, compression quality, trigger clarity, and invalidation are evaluated together.
